Samsung-Power-optionsWith Android being one of the most used smartphone platforms out there, sometimes it would make sense for Google to include as many features as possible, thus saving OEMs from having to craft new ones which presumably could also affect the rate at which updates are rolled out to users.

One feature that we’re sure many users have been asking Google for is the reboot option. Right now stock Android does not have that feature. So what happens is that in order to restart your phone, you’d have to turn it off and turn it back on. Sometimes this is necessary after installing updates or if your phone is acting up.

In fact it seems that this is such a useful feature that even Sony themselves have asked Google to include the feature. The OEM has recently posted the request on Google’s issue tracker in which they wrote, “The idea is that for users that are aware of the developer options (developers/advanced users), the feature will give them the option to restart their phones from the UI e.g. during development, or just to ‘refresh’ the device.”

Unfortunately it seems that for the most part, Google isn’t too interested in the idea as prior to this, Google had actually closed the ticket for a similar idea back in February, essentially “declining” it. We’re not sure why they are against such an option, but what say you? Does the idea of a reboot option sound like a good idea?
