Lenovo-sign

It was rumored a couple of days ago that Samsung is making a new mobile processor which will be called the Exynos 8870, apparently it’s going to be a toned down version of the flagship Exynos 8890 which would then be sold to other manufacturers. Chinese OEM Meizu was said to be one of the companies that could adopt the new processor and now word on the street is that an upcoming smartphone from Lenovo may also tout the Exynos 8870.

The possibility that Meizu might adopt this new chip made sense since it has previously used Samsung processors, the Meizu PRO 5 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7420 processor, so there’s no reason to believe that Meizu won’t source processors from Samsung again.

However, it’s interesting to note that Lenovo is now believed to be in the mix as well, apparently showing interest in Samsung’s upcoming processor which it would like to use for a new handset. Nothing else has been said about this rumored handset for now so it’s unclear what other specs it may have.

Since this rumor originates from an unofficial source in China it would be best to take it with a grain of salt for now. Lenovo may very well go with a processor from Samsung, the company’s chips can rival the best of them when it comes to performance, but we can only be really sure when there’s some concrete evidence to support the claim.
