If you haven’t seen your pregnant friends do it, chances are you might have seen it on TV or in movies where expecting parents will play all kinds of music that supposedly helps the fetus develop into a smarter/creative human being. This can be done either through conventional methods like using actual speakers, or in some cases headphones are placed on the woman’s stomach.

However over in Spain, a company has created a speaker called Babypod that will let pregnant women deliver music to their babies in a rather interesting and very unconventional method, which is through the vagina. Calling itself an intravaginal device, basically the Babypod is a speaker that is inserted into the vagina much like a tampon.

It will then transport music into the womb at 54 decibels, which is approximately the volume levels of a gentle conversation, so don’t worry about damaging your baby. According to Babypod, “Scientific studies show that it encourages communication and vocalisation in babies before birth through the music streamed. Babypod gives them their first musical and learning experience.”

To celebrate the launch, a concert was held in Spain where 2009 Eurovision singer Soraya serenaded ten pregnant women who had Babypod speakers inside them with Christmas carols. It’s an interesting idea, albeit not very practical, but if you’re interested in learning more or getting your hands on it, head on over to its website (it’s in Spanish) for the details.
