cat-s50c-43-pressWhen you think of the brand Cat, you might associate it with construction-related products like heavy machinery and whatnot. This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that their smartphones have also been designed to be rugged, presumably where it can be used in places like construction sites where a drop or two won’t render your phone useless.

That being said, a new Cat phone has been officially announced in the form of the S50c and it will be available from Verizon. According to Android Central, this is actually the first for the brand as prior to this, Cat’s smartphones were typically of the GSM variety meant for networks like AT&T and T-Mobile.

So what kind of specs can we expect from the S50c? From the looks alone, the handset looks tough and sure enough it is. According to the specs, the S50c will be IP67 certified, meaning that it can survive dunks in water for brief periods of time. We don’t suggest you go swimming with it, but if you do drop it in a puddle of water, you don’t need to start freaking out.

It will feature a 4.7-inch HD display that can be operated even with gloves on. There is a 1.2GHz processor under its hood that is accompanied by 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage that can be expanded via microSD, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and a 2,630mAh battery. It will available unlocked directly from Cat where it is priced at $399.
