foxconn-workersA Foxconn factory that so happens to be the place that does much of the company’s iPhone manufacturing (yes, the famous handset from Apple, caught fire earlier today. Thankfully, there were no casualties involved in the incident, which means that only physical damage occurred over at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant. The fire began in the plant’s central air conditioning system before making its way rather quickly to several other floors. Despite the damage involved, there will be no effect on the production rate, but this particular fire serves as a reminder of safety for everyone.

If one were to rewind the clock by close to half a decade back, there was another incident at Foxconn’s plant in Chengdu, where an explosion took the lives of three workers after combustible dust caught on fire within a duct. Following that incident four months down the road, there was another fire which broke out at a Foxconn factory in Shandong without any reported casualties involved. Of course, there were also other issues such as worker suicides at Foxconn’s factories, not to mention riots at Foxconn’s plant in Taiyuan back in September 2012. Hopefully Foxconn continues to uphold their pledge to improve working conditions for everyone at their plants.
