game of thrones

Being one of those viewers who actually read all of the books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin prior to starting Game of Thrones, I was particularly hopeful that the author will finish the new book before season 6 of this hit show airs. Unfortunately, the author himself has confirmed that this isn’t going to happen and that Game of Thrones season 6 is most definitely going to air before his next book in the series titled The Winds of Winter arrives.

“The Winds of Winter is not finished … The book’s not done. Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week,” George R.R. Martin wrote on his blog, leaving no space for speculation and confirming that the new season will air first.

The Winds of Winters was originally scheduled to be completed before the end of this year, Martin has already gone past the two deadlines given by his publisher and now those who read all of the books will see the story being spoiled by the new season which will be an adaptation and not a reproduction.

The author doesn’t try to pin the delay on anybody but himself, writing that “There are no excuses. No one else is to blame. Not my editors and publishers, not HBO, not [screenwriters] David [Benioff] and Dan [Brett Weiss]. It’s on me. I tried, and I am still trying.”

For now Martin isn’t setting a deadline but says the book is months away provided that the writing goes well, “It will be done when it’s done,” he adds.
