Over the past few months, HTC has shown that it’s serious about competing in the virtual reality market which looks ready for a boom this year. Multiple companies are coming out with their headsets in 2016 and HTC has already made clear that it’s going to be one of them. Days after launching the second-generation developer version of its Vive virtual headset, HTC has confirmed that it’s going to open up pre-orders for the Vive next month.

The confirmation comes straight from HTC CEO Cher Wang herself who told The Telegraph that her company has chosen to focus its priorities away from smartphones to virtual reality, adding that HTC is now “more realistic.” “Yes, smartphones are important, but to create a natural extension to other connected devices like wearables and virtual reality is more important,” she added.

The second-generation developer kit of HTC Vive virtual reality headset has already been showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016 last week, the redesigned headset is more comfortable than before and also features some new components that add to its abilities.

Perhaps HTC thought it was about time to reveal when pre-orders will open seeing that Oculus has already started taking pre-orders for the consumer version of its Rift VR headset and it’s going to start shipping them by April 2016.

Pre-orders for the HTC Vive VR headset will open on February 29th, 2016. The price has not yet been confirmed by HTC.
