They say that the best way to see how well you know something is by teaching it to others, which in turn will reveal how much you know or don’t know, thus sending you back to the drawing back if it is the latter. In fact this is the principle behind a movement called MathAndCoding.org.
Launched by two teenagers by the name of Vineet Kosaraju, 17-year old, and Nikhil Cheerla, a 16-year old. The idea behind it is to provide hands-on coding classes to kids of varying ages, ranging from grade school through high school. However the catch is that instead of being taught by adults or industry professionals, this movement will see kids teach other kids what they have learnt.
Their first class only consisted of about 20 students, but it seems that the success of the class led them to continue with the program. “After that first class, Nikhil and I were incredibly excited. We had successfully taught a class and helped about 20 students get their first venture into coding.” To date, it seems that they have successfully taught about 1,100 kids to code.
The topics covered have even expanded to more advanced languages, such as visual coding, Java, web programming like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, Python, and it even covers mobile apps. So if you’d like your kids to learn some programming, maybe this could be worth checking out.
