Several weeks ago, we reported that a teen managed to rack up $8,000 in in-app purchases on the Xbox One while playing FIFA. So far we’ve seen companies like Apple and Google refund customers on accidental in-app purchases without a lot of fuss, and have since put safeguards into place to ensure that it doesn’t happen as often anymore.Unfortunately in this case, the credit card rep told the teen’s father that the only way they could get the charges reversed would be to charge his son with fraud, something that he obviously wasn’t willing to do. The good news is that this story has a happy ending because according to an update from CBC News, Microsoft finally got in touch with the father and has since refunded them the money.
Lance Perkins, the father of the teen in the case, has since stated that he is thankful for Microsoft for making that decision. He also added, “I hope we have warned enough people. This is not just a game when it can upset a whole family and endanger our children with making mistakes. I hope there are more safeguards put in place for credit card holders.”
Prior to this, Perkins stated that he would never get an Xbox system for the house again, although we have to wonder if his tune might have changed now that Microsoft has decided to refund him his money.
