There are several different smart smoke detectors available in the market today, but if you’d rather not spend the money or time installing a brand new system, but you’d like the same conveniences and features it offers, then you might be interested to learn that D-Link has announced the Smart Alarm Detector that will be added to their mydlink lineup.

For those unfamiliar, mydlink is the company’s lineup of smart home products, and the Smart Alarm Detector is the latest. Announced at CES 2016, this is basically an alarm detector that takes a second to set up. All you’d have to do is plug it into your power outlet and what it does is that it listens for alarms in your home.

Say you’re out of town and your smoke or CO detector goes off, obviously no one’s home to hear the alarm which makes it kind of useless. However the Smart Alarm Detector will pick up on the sound and from there, it will send an alert to the smartphone it is linked with, thus notifying the owner that there is a situation in their home.

If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, this is because this is similar to a device called the Leeo Smart Alert that was launched in 2014. That being said, D-Link’s solution will be available in Q2 2016 and will be priced at $59.99, so if you’d like to get your hands on it, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for pre-orders.
