netflix-expansionEarlier this month when Netflix announced that they would be launching pretty much around the world, safe to say that many users were happy. However that happiness quickly went away when it was discovered that due to licensing and copyright issues, not all regions will share the same catalogue, with some regions containing a noticeably smaller catalogue than others.

The good news is that there is a tool you can use to check to see what kind of content is available in your region, and for you to decide if the current selection is worth paying for. Dubbed uNoGS, this online tool will show you by country how many videos is available and is updated on a daily basis as Netflix adds or removes shows for certain regions.

The discrepancies are huge. For example in the US, there are over 5,000 shows to choose from. This is compared to other regions like Singapore where there are only 600+ videos. Of course we expect that eventually Netflix will add more shows to bring all their markets on par with each other, but like we said if you want to check availability to see if it’s worth shelling out the money, you can go ahead and do so.

In the meantime it looks like Netflix has also started to clamp down on VPN users such as over in Australia, so if you’re thinking of getting around the restrictions via VPN, you might not get a chance to use it before Netflix starts to put an end to it.
