Oculus-Touch-2The virtual reality scene will definitely be heating up this year. All the major players such as Sony, Oculus, and HTC/Valve are expected to launch their products this year, with Oculus already starting to take pre-orders for the Oculus Rift which is priced at $599. That being said, with so many players in the market, who does Oculus think could be their biggest rival?

Speaking to the International Business Times, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey admitted that Sony’s PlayStation VR could potentially be their biggest challenger. However despite that, Luckey thinks that both the PlayStation VR and the Oculus Rift could appeal to different sections of the market.

According to Luckey, “That might be true. I think that there’s not many people who already own a PS4 who don’t own a gaming PC who are going to go out and make that roughly $1,500 all-in investment in the Rift. It really is a separate market. They’re bringing virtual reality to a different group of people who I don’t think were ever really a part of our market anyway.”

However Luckey seems to think at the end of the day, at least for now, it shouldn’t really be a competition as they should all be working together to create more awareness about virtual reality. “It’s us versus the public and trying to convince them that VR is worth adopting. That it’s worth wearing something on your head to use virtual reality. That’s the real fight, and I think we’re all fighting that together.”
