Most of us when given a Rubik’s Cube will probably take minutes, if not hours (or even days/weeks) before we are able to solve it. There are plenty of competitions out there where we’ve seen people solve the puzzles in seconds, but we reckon that they will be extremely hard pressed to beat this robot.

Designed by software engineers Jay Flatland and Paul Rose, both engineers have created a robot that is capable of solving a Rubik’s Cube in a little over a second. As it stands, the current world record for machines solving the cube is at 3.253 seconds, so if the judges are able to certify Flatland and Rose’s creation, then it looks like we might have a new winner.

So far the robot has been pretty consistent and in its various attempts, have managed to solve the cube in varying times of 1.196 seconds, 1.152 seconds, 1.047 seconds, and its fastest record was 1.019 seconds. Just to give some perspective, the current record held by humans is by Lucas Etter who solved it in 4.904 seconds.

Safe to say that this creation not just flattens the competition in terms of other robots, but also humans. We can only imagine that it will be much more amazing if they were to be able to further reduce its time to under a second, which will be quite an accomplishment. In any case you can check out the robot in action in the video above.
