Have you ever wondered why despite the technology being so old that vinyl seems to be seeing some kind of resurgence? Some have argued that in our pursuit to make everything digital, that we have stripped away the essence and warmth that we have gotten from analog formats. Now if you’re an advocate of analog, then Star Wars Episode IX will be worth looking forward to.
According to a report from Variety, it seems that during a press conference at the Sundance Film Festival, the movie’s director Colin Trevorrow revealed that the movie will be shot completely on film as opposed to digital, which is what a lot of movie directors are doing these days for cost and efficiency reasons.
Trevorrow was quoted as saying, “There’s something in my brain that says, ‘well they didn’t have video cameras then,’” before he jokingly added, “It’s a period film. It happened a long time ago.” His sentiments were echoed by Chris Nolan who has also turned to the use of film in some of his movies, like Inception and Interstellar.
According to Nolan, “There needs to be a choice. As a medium it will continue to exist. It has to continue to exist. It’s pointless to pretend it has to go away.” Of course whether or not a movie is good or bad isn’t dependent on its format, but like we said, for those who do love the look and feel of film, then you’ll want to add Star Wars Episode IX to your list, although given that Episode VIII is still in the works, you’ll probably be waiting a while.
