star warsLast month we reported that in a span of 12 days, Star Wars: The Force Awakens managed to rake in $1 billion in ticket sales globally. It also managed to rake in over $500 million in the US. The movie already managed to achieve the title as the fastest movie to earn $1 billion, and now it has a new title to add to its list.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that The Force Awakens will now hold the title of being the biggest movie ever in North America. This is thanks to the movie successfully earning more than James Cameron’s Avatar, which took in $760.5 million, and they managed to achieve this in just 20 days since its release.

However we should note that despite this achievement, Avatar still holds the record as making the most money on a global level where it managed to earn $2.78 billion. However we can only assume with this latest record, The Force Awakens is one step closer to hitting those numbers, although admittedly it still feels like quite a long shot.

According to a post on the official Star Wars website, “We are proud of these records, but know that they would not be possible without fans’ enthusiasm and continued support. We feel it here and it drives us every day, and it will continue to in the very bright future of Star Wars. There has indeed been an awakening — and it’s all thanks to you.”
