tesla_model_x_2Very recently Tesla announced a new feature for its Model S car called Summon. Basically it’s almost like a self-driving feature where at a press of a button, your Tesla car will be smart enough to figure out how to park itself, making it useful in spots that might be too tight for the driver/passenger to get out, or for the novice driver who would hate to scratch their cars going in.

Now if you thought that and Tesla’s autopilot mode was pretty cool, you might want to look forward to 2018 because according to a prediction made by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, he seems to believe that in 2018, there will be a Tesla car that will be capable of driving itself across the entire country.

According to Musk, “Ultimately you’ll be able to summon your car anywhere … your car can get to you. I think that within two years, you’ll be able to summon your car from across the country.” He also adds, “It will meet you wherever your phone is … and it will just automatically charge itself along the entire journey.”

That being said, Musk does admit that his outlook is admittedly optimistic and that Tesla cars would need to be outfitted with more sensors for such a feat to be accomplished, as opposed to a mere software upgrade which is what they did for autopilot mode. This also means that the Tesla cars you drive now might not be capable of such a feat, and you might need to pay to add new sensors or get a new car. Either way it does seem pretty exciting, but what do you guys think of such a feature?
