sony-vaio-tap-11--01When you think of laptops, you might think of brands like Lenovo, HP, Dell, or Apple. While brands like Toshiba, Fujitsu, and Vaio were more popular back in the day, it’s pretty obvious that these companies have taken a backseat to the abovementioned brands in today’s market, so much so that a rumor about merging their operations has surfaced.

According to a report from DigiTimes, it has been suggested that the three companies are apparently close to deciding whether or not their PC operations should merge together so that they can stand a better chance in today’s market. This wouldn’t be the first time that companies have banded together. For example Japan Display consists of a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi.

That being said, this isn’t the first time we have heard these rumors. It was originally reported back in December 2015, but based on DigiTimes’ report, it sounds as if the companies are closer to making a decision. However back then Vaio had denied the reports, so we’re not sure if they are true the second time around, but like they say, if there’s smoke, there might be fire.

In any case it’s best taken with a grain of salt for now, but how does the idea of a merger between these companies sound to you? Do you think that they will stand a better chance if they were to combine forces?
