If you’re a guitar player, you probably know what whammy bars are. For those who aren’t guitarists, the whammy bar is the stick you sometimes see on the body of the guitar then when pressed or pulled, it changes the pitch of the guitar temporarily, creating some pretty amazing sounds and solos in the process.

Now the idea of attaching a whammy bar to an acoustic guitar is ridiculous, simply because it would rip the wood off the body of the guitar, but thanks to Virtual Jeff, that will no longer be the case. Created by FOMOfx, the Virtual Jeff can be described as a digital whammy bar, with the whammy bar itself acting more like a controller than an actual whammy bar.

It will work with any guitar with a pickup, so attaching it to an acoustic guitar should be no problem. Best of all, guitarists can even choose from eight different pitch presets, such as one semitone to two octaves down or up, meaning that if you’re a beginner guitarist, you should still be able to use it to great effect. More traditional musicians might frown upon it, but if it gets the job done, why not?

Best of all, Virtual Jeff also has no impact on your guitar’s tone or tuning, unlike typical whammy bars in which after a few pulls, your tuning will start to run. FOMOfx claims that it is easy to install and can be done in 30 seconds. No word on pricing but Virtual Jeff is expected to be demoed at Winter NAMM 2016. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see it in action.
