volkswagenIn case you haven’t heard, Volkswagen has recently been accused of engaging in deceptive practices with regards to its diesel emission claims in its cars. So how can they go about fixing it? Surely they can’t recall every car ever made, right? Turns out the company might have an idea of how to go about fixing it.

According to a report from Reuters, they have heard from sources that Volkswagen has come up with a solution to address the diesel emissions cheating, which is by building a new catalytic converter that will be fitted to around 430,000 cars in the US that were part of the group affected by the cheating emissions tests.

This would be fitted onto cars with the first generator of the EA 189 diesel engine, according to a report from German daily Bild am Sonntag. However this isn’t necessarily a done deal because it will still need to be approved by the US Environmental Protection Authority, something which Volkswagen’s new CEO Matthias Mueller hopes to convince them off at a meeting this coming Wednesday.

So far neither side has managed to come up with a solution that they can agree on, so hopefully this will be it. So far it had been previously rumored that Volkswagen had apparently offered affected owners cash, but ultimately at the end of the day it has been estimated this scandal could cost the carmaker $7.3 billion to fix.
