watch dogsWatch Dogs was launched to great success and it also represents a new franchise for Ubisoft. Now it has been a little over a year since the first game was launched, meaning that a successor seems about due. In fact early last year we heard the rumors that Watch Dogs 2 was in development.

Turns out that the rumors might be right because according to new reports, Watch Dogs 2 could be launched this year. This is according to a report from Kotaku who claims to have heard that its release is pegged for 2016 and that the game’s location will be set in San Francisco. This is the same report that suggested that there will be no new Assassin’s Creed this year.

Yesterday we reported on a rumor that Ubisoft could skip Assassin’s Creed this year in favor of a 2017 release, allowing them to put more attention and focus in the game. At the same time having a new Assassin’s Creed launch next year also makes sense as it would allow Watch Dogs 2 to enjoy the spotlight without having to compete with other Ubisoft franchises, like Far Cry Primal which is set for a release next month.

Now obviously this report should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but like we said Watch Dogs is due for new content, and with no Assassin’s Creed this year, Ubisoft will need a game to fill in the gap and Watch Dogs 2 might not be a bad idea, but what say you?
