It was previously reported that Microsoft was planning to release Windows 10 Mobile to existing Windows Phone 8 smartphones in January 2016, it’s believed that the company ended up shelving those plans due to some delays, and according to a new report it’s now going to release Windows 10 Mobile for existing devices next month. Microsoft is said to have shared the news of this rescheduling with its partners.
The report also claims that aside from delaying the Windows 10 Mobile release by one month, Microsoft has also ended up delaying the scheduled monthly service update for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, even though the December deployment was successful.
The email reportedly mentions that the service update and the major update for legacy handsets are not ready yet which is why the company needs more time to work on it, as a consequence the release ends up getting delayed. It expects to have the software ready by next month.
An advantage that Windows Phone 8 handsets owners get is that when Windows 10 Mobile is finally released for them, they’ll get the most recent version of the software, which will include everything that the February service update is going to bring to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
Hopefully, Microsoft will be able to push out this update next month, its customers have already been waiting for a long time, and they would’ve like to wait much longer.
