ipad-mini-retina-review-appstoreWhile companies like Google and Microsoft have no problem with releasing apps on other platforms, sometimes even before their own, Apple has so far been pretty closed off and have kept their apps exclusive to the iOS platform. However that could soon change, according to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook.

Speaking at a town hall meeting, Cook said that he was not opposed to releasing more apps for other platforms, such as Android. In fact as it stands, Apple has a couple of apps for Android, one of which helps Android users switch to iOS, and the other is Apple Music. Cook did not dive into specifics, but we can imagine that apps like iCloud, Apple Pay, or even their productivity apps would make for great ports.

Maps would also be a good candidate, although given that Google Maps is a favorite even amongst iOS users, we’re not sure how much traction it could gain outside the iOS ecosystem. It will also be interesting to see if Apple might be open to the idea of making iMessage cross-platform compatible, which would encourage more people to use it over competing apps like WhatsApp, LINE, Skype, KakaoTalk, Messenger, and etc.

Of course this is just speculation, but for non-iOS users out there, what kind of Apple-made apps would you be interested in seeing arrive on your Android/Windows 10 Mobile device in the future?
