A while back, Apple introduced a trade-in program where you could bring in an old iPhone and trade it in for a new one. The only stipulation was that the phone had to be working and that there is nothing broken, meaning broken home buttons, sleep buttons, or cracked screens will not nab you a trade-in.

However that has changed. According to a report from 9to5Mac, it seems that that starting this week, Apple has expanded its trade-in program where broken iPhones are now accepted to be part of the trade-in. However these phones can only be broken within a reasonable degree, meaning that if it was completely smashed and run over by a truck, you’re out of luck, but a broken display or a non-responsive home button should be no problem.

It also only applies to relatively newer iPhone models, like the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6, and the iPhone 6 Plus, so any iPhone 5 or older models will not qualify. In addition to the trade-in, 9to5Mac has also learnt that Apple Stores will now start offering screen protector installations, thanks to a partnership with Belkin (there could be more partners).

There is actually a machine that they will use in the back (see video above) that will apply the screen protector onto the phone, thus reducing the chance of human error.
