doom_1Due to the fact that consoles are fixed in terms of their hardware, there is only so much developers can squeeze out of it. This is versus PCs where the possibilities are endless due to the various configurations that PC builders can come up with. This usually means that sometimes games on console might play on a lower resolution or lower framerate compared to PC.

However the good news is that if you are looking forward to playing Bethesda’s upcoming Doom title, the developers have announced that the game will be running at 1080p in terms of resolution, and 60fps in terms of framerate regardless of which platform you choose, whether it be the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.

According to the game’s Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan, this was possible thanks to the use of their new idTech 6 engine. “We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second. Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”

No doubt this is good news as sometimes favorite points of debate between Xbox One and PS4 gamers would be how games tend to play at a higher resolution and higher framerate on the PS4 versus the Xbox One, but at least as far as Doom is concerned, it will be equal. In the meantime Doom is expected to be released on the 13th of May. Gamers who pre-order the digital version of the game on the Xbox One will also get backwards compatible Doom 1 and 2 games for free.
