Google launched its OnHub routers last year and focused primarily on the simplicity of it all. The idea was to make it very easy for users to set up, use and troubleshoot the router however it didn’t quite have features that one easily finds in other routers, guest network mode being one of those features. Google has finally added guest network mode to OnHub.

OnHub’s guest mode can be configured using the updated companion apps available for both iOS and Android while the router itself also gets a firmware update. Users will now be able to create new networks meant only for guests so that they don’t have to divulge their password to every other visitor.

Most routers already allow users to create a network separate from the primary network with its own name and password but Google is providing additional functionality with the guest mode.

Users will be able to select which connected devices on the network guests can access, so it’s possible to give them access to a connected streaming media player but not the wireless speakers. Guests can access all of the approved connected devices on the network by visiting On.Here on their devices when they’re connected to the network.

The latest update to the OneHub app also brings the ability to rename connected devices so that they can be easily identified. The updated Android app is available now while the router’s firmware update and the updated iOS app will arrive in a few days.
