In September last year, Facebook introduced a new ad product for marketers called Canvas and today at an event in New York it has officially launched this product. Countless marketers use the world’s largest social network to advertise their products and services, that’s one of the major ways Facebook makes its revenues, so it’s really not surprising to see the company create new ad products that allow it to earn more from ads.

The Canvas ad product builds on the Carousel ads that were previously added to Facebook. These ads enable users to swipe through multiple brand and product photos if they’re interested in finding out more information provided by that ad.

Cavas is a bit different since it provides full-screen interactive ads. They are essentially mini-websites that feature descriptions, short videos, slideshows and an interactive scrollable user interface.

The ads will not be obtrusive to users on their own. They will be displayed as regular ads in the News Feed and will be accompanied by a “tap to open” prompt. It is only when a user taps on the ad that the full experience, with all of its content, is quickly loaded.

According to Facebook, test users have responded positively to this new ad product and that they spend more than 70 seconds for best Canvas ads with the average user spending about 31 seconds per ad. Canvas ads will soon start appearing in your feed as Facebook has now opened them up to advertisers.
