Our smartphones are very dear to us, that’s evident by the sheer panic that sets in whenever we forget our phone somewhere and have no hope of getting it back. It’s a similar feeling when the phone falls in a place where it might be particularly hard to retrieve it from, a like a freezing lake for example, but that didn’t stop a Chinese woman from following her iPhone into a freezing lake.

The story about a Chinese woman jumping in after her iPhone has been gathering a lot of buzz online. Reports out of China indicate that she jumped into a freezing two-meter deep lake in Beijing, China to retrieve her iPhone.

According to reports, she accidentally dropped her phone in the Longtan Lake and went in after it fully clothed. The temperature on that day was reported to be between -2 and 9 degree Celsius.

It’s another thing to jump in after an animal falls in or a human being is drowing and needs help, because life is precious and can’t be bought again, but people don’t tend to sympathize with you when you put your life at risk for items that can be easily replaced.

That’s why this story is getting so much traction online. Most people can’t believe that she would risk her life like that for an iPhone, one of those things can’t be replaced, and if it were me I’d choose the former over the latter.
