lg-g5-moduleOne of the unique features of the LG G5, or at least that’s what the rumors are claiming, is its removable battery slot at the bottom of the phone. Now you might be thinking that removable batteries aren’t new, and you would be right. However thanks to a recent photo obtained by Android Authority, we now have an idea of what the feature could be used for.

As you can see in the photo above, it seems that the slot will be used to add on accessories. Dubbed the Magic Slot, apparently LG plans on creating an accessory ecosystem where users can swap in and out components, making the phone almost like a modular device. For example the photo picture above is supposedly a battery pack that also doubles as a camera grip with extra camera functions.

While it is hard to make out, we can see what looks like a shutter release button, some additional buttons, and a dial which we can only assume could be used to control the zoom or other functions like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure, and etc. In addition to a possible camera module, the folks at VentureBeat have learnt of another potentially accessory.

It seems that there could also be a DAC which will improve the audio capabilities of the phone. The report claims that LG will be working with Bang & Olufsen to develop the module for the phone. It does sound pretty exciting but do take it with a grain of salt for now, but remember to check back with us this coming Sunday for the details.
