I am quite sure that many of us have been contacted by a telemarketer at least once in our lives, no matter how private we would like our phone number to be. It does makes us wonder why bother signing all those legal forms which claim to safeguard our privacy when banks and other companies are able to call us? Well, Roger Anderson decided to “fight back” by starting the Jolly Roger Telephone, which would allow users to begin a three-way call with the service, letting them tune in on the conversation between the telemarketer and the bot.

Specially designed to offer entertainment and empowerment for just about everyone who have had to go through the drag of such calls, one of the more frequently asked questions by telemarketers would be, “Is this a real person?” Sounds like the tables have turned!

A normal call would see the robot engage the telemarketer for a few minutes, although there are several exceptions which would see the conversation ramble on for longer. How does the robot do this? By doing the very same thing that telemarketer indulge in, that is, to remain on the line should the person be agreeable. Hence, standard answers include “yeah,” “sure,” “okay” and “yes.” This service can juggle multiple calls simultaneously, and over the course of the past 10 days, the number (214-666-4321) has received 100,000 calls.
