Watching world famous drummers who sweat it out while banging those drums is certainly a majestic sight to behold, but imagine what would happen if such drummers had yet another limb to hit those cymbals with? This is what the video above depicts – a robotic limb that offers drummers the option of having a third arm, and this arm will respond to gestures as well as music that it hears.

Robotic Arm Researchers over at the Georgia Institute of Technology have come up with a wearable robotic limb which will function as a drummer’s third arm. This robotic limb will be attached to one’s shoulder, where it measures 2 feet in length, and works as though it runs on pixie dust. In reality, whenever a drummer starts to play the hi-hat cymbal, the robotic limb will move itself to play the ride cymbal, and when one’s attention is shifted to the snare, the robotic arm will make a corresponding move to the tom.

The project’s aim? To test the limits of what human beings are capable of. It is dynamic in nature, and whenever the drummer plays at a slow speed, the arm will also lower the tempo, and should the speed increase, so too, will the arm start to pick up the pace. Robotic limbs are not new, as they have seen action before under the guise of medical or leisure factions. It is nice to see mentally linked robotic parts make advancements over the course of time.
