It’s not unusual to find hidden easter eggs in games, developers program them and only those who are really looking to discover the easter eggs are able to find them. Mortal Kombat creator Ed J Boon had personally programmed hidden menus in arcade versions of Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3. Those hidden menus, called EJB Menu after the creator himself, have now been discovered by a player after two decades.

The EJB Menu in Mortal Kombat 1 and Mortal Kombat 2 allow you to view character endings, run diagnostic and debug tests, enter initials directly into the leaderboard and even do “coin bookkeeping.” A “Hello” option appears to be a list of names that Ed Boon basically wanted to give a shout out to.

The Ed Boon menu in Mortal Kombat 3 is much better. It has an option that enables you to unlock hidden characters immediately and allows you to watch every fatality. A “Penacho/Miller Game” can be fired up using the menu and it’s a very difficult clone of Galaga.

It’s not known for sure if hidden menus exist in other titles in this franchise and also in the console versions of Mortal Kombat games. If you’re interested in finding out how to access these hidden menus on arcade versions of Mortal Kombat check out the video posted above.
