sony-logoSony has high hopes for their dual lens camera, as the Japanese consumer electronics behemoth has stepped forward to maintain that major smartphone manufacturers should be implementing the company’s dual-lens technology within the coming year. According to Sony CFO Kenichiro Yoshida, demand for the dual-lens technology could see a potential negative impact this year due to to a slowdown in the high-end smartphone market, but that should not deter Sony from implementing its plans with other major smartphone manufacturers across the board.

2017 could jolly well be the year where the dual-lens rear camera systems will begin to be more and more common on flagship models from various manufacturers. After all, there has been speculation in the past that the second camera lens on the back of the iPhone 7 Plus will function as an optical zoom, but until the real deal or additional information is shared by Apple themselves, we will just have to take such speculations with a pinch of salt.

However, we should take into consideration that Apple has a history of introducing premium features into its iPhone Plus models’ back camera, such as Optical Imaging Stabilization. All in all, it would be interesting to see just how much better image quality would get with the implementation of Sony’s dual-lens cameras across the board in due time.
