terrier-tankWe all know how modern day mobile devices happen to be a prime example in converging technology, where apart from receiving and making phone calls, these smartphones double up as GPS navigation devices, portable media players as well as our cameras, among others. How about the realm of vehicles – will the same standards be able to apply in principle? BAE Systems says yes, having unveiled their latest Terrier tank that is deemed to be a ‘Swiss Army knife’ armored vehicle of the modern day.

Dubbed in such a manner due to its extensive range of tools available on a single vehicle, it will now boast of a telescopic investigation arm which is an upgrade to the current Terrier, as per defense chiefs’ orders. BAE Systems’ Terrier has been specially designed to handle the various challenges of warfare that the country might potentially face down the road. It has the ability to probe for buried explosives, as well as split solid concrete using a rock hammer – and this rock hammer will extend over 8 meters away from its body.

Not only that, it has a greater wading depth and surge protection than its predecessor, making it have a role to play as well in disaster relief situations. We are talking about going through deep waters as well as being able to handle waves of up to six and a half feet. It has a top speed of 45 mph and can be controlled remotely from a kilometer away, making this 32-ton beast a monster on the battlefield – and off it.
