vaio phone bizVAIO used to be a name synonymous with Sony and laptops back in the day. Now that Sony has sold it off to another company, VAIO still manufactures laptops, but safe to say that they aren’t quite as popular as they used to be. However that’s not stopping the company because it looks like they have decided to dip their toes in the smartphone market as well.

The company has recently announced its first ever Windows 10 Mobile handset – the VAIO Phone Biz. Unlike the smartphone that VAIO launched last year, the Phone Biz is actually a pretty decent looking handset. In fact we shouldn’t really be so surprised, especially since last October it was hinted that VAIO had a Windows 10 Mobile device in the works.

So what are we looking at here? For starters, the phone will sport an aluminum finish, a nice touch compared to Microsoft’s choice of plastic for their Lumia phones (here’s hoping the Surface Phone will change that). It will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 3GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset, and a 13MP rear-facing camera.

It’s not exactly what you would call a high-end device, but it looks good and it has good enough specs to support Windows 10’s Continuum mode. Unfortunately availability of the device seems to be limited to Japan for now where it is expected to go on sale in April for roughly $425. There is no word on whether it will make its way out of Japan, but for now it doesn’t seem like it.
