Xiaomi will officially launch the Mi 5 on the 24th of February, 2016 next week during MWC. So far it appears to have been confirmed that the handset will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, and a recent post on Facebook by Hugo Barra has teased that the upcoming handset will be “insanely fast”.

According to Barra who shared a video on Facebook, he wrote, “Here’s the first video teaser for #Mi5. Just how fast is fast? Record holder Xiao Lin Cen, who can skip rope 1096 times (1096!!!) in 3 minutes shows you how. Forget everything you know about speed, #Mi5 will show you the meaning of fast in just 7 days now.”

For those unfamiliar with Xiao Lin Cen, he is an 11-year old boy from China who has set a world record for skipping 108 skips in 30 seconds. If you were to check out the video above, you can see exactly how fast we are talking about which is actually pretty insane. In any case we’re not sure what Barra could be referring to.

Could it simply be about the speed of the phone? If that’s the case, we expect that most Snapdragon 820-powered devices should perform just as admirably. Or maybe he could be talking about the handset camera’s speed which might make sense with its f/1.6 aperture and laser autofocus system. In any case we suppose we’ll find out soon enough, so check back with us next week for the details.
