Android users are more interested in Marshmallow updates right now but it goes without saying that there are countless users out there who’d just like an update to a more modern version of the iteration they’re on. Fragmentation is exacerbated by the fact that carriers tend to delay updates as well. Verizon is just now updating the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This update has finally arrived on the tablet a year after it was initially released.

Verizon’s support page for this device notes that the Xperia Tablet Z2 is being updated from Android 5.0.2 to Android 5.1.1. All of the features and improvements that come part and parcel of this update are included in the latest release.

The update also brings the latest security patches for the device, considering the fact that Android is prone to malware much more than competing platforms, it’s always best to keep your device updated to the latest release so that you always have the most recent security patches installed.

Android 5.1.1 for Xperia Tabet Z2 on Verizon comes in at around 800MB. Verizon has started rolling out this update today and it’s going to go live for all users in a couple of days.

It’s unclear if and when this device is going to receive the Marshmallow update but one thing’s for sure though, it’s not going to get it anytime soon.
