Yahoo isn’t having the best of times these days particularly since it announced that it was closing five offices and laying off a significant chunk of its workforce. Questions are now being asked about the company’s future and whether or not there’s a company out there that’s willing to acquire Yahoo. Until that happens it has to keep the ship floating and that requires cutting loose anything that might drag you down and, in this case, that’s Yahoo Games.

The online games portal has been around for over a decade and has been used by many to access its library of classic card and board games. It was a great way to pass the time or even slack off at work.

This news didn’t really get much steam since the focus is on Yahoo’s downsizing but that doesn’t mean this isn’t going to happen. At one point, tens of millions of people used to visit this online games portal every month but times have changed now as casual gaming has moved towards mobile devices.

It’s much common to find someone playing Candy Crush or Clash of Clans on their iPhone now as opposed to seeing them play one of the many board games available on Yahoo Games. Only a matter of time now till Yahoo pulls the plug on this service, it has confirmed that this is going to happen so there’s no doubt about it, perhaps it might happen sooner rather than later.
