amazon echoIf you use a Fitbit to track your daily activities and workouts, you’re probably more than familiar with its companion app that will display all of your stats. However if you’re too lazy to check the app and want your stats read out to you, you might be pleased to learn that Fitbit has recently announced that Amazon’s Alexa will now have support for their platform.

According to Tim Roberts, Executive Vice President, Interactive at Fitbit, “Our integration with Alexa gives you hands-free access to your data, so you can find out when you walk in the door at the end of the day what your step count is in seconds, and know if you need to go on a quick walk before dinner. As we look at how this integration could evolve in the future, there is an endless world of possibilities from fitness coaching and nutrition tips, to guidance before bedtime to help you get a more restful night’s sleep.”

Users will be able to prompt Alexa for their Fitbit details, like, “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I’m doing today,” in which it will then be able to read back data like how many minutes of activity you’ve logged today, the number of steps you’ve taken, calories burnt, sleeping patterns, and etc. Alexa will also be smart enough to prompt users to get out and do more activities if it detects that you have yet to meet your daily or weekly goals.

So if you are a Fitbit user and have a device that has Amazon’s Alexa installed on i (like the Amazon Echo, Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Echo Dot, or Amazon Tap), this could be a feature worth checking out.
