Viewing videos, regardless of whether you are doing so on a computer at home or on a mobile device, tends to consume a whole lot of data for sure. The thing is, on a home broadband or fiber service, that is negligible due to the amount of bandwidth one has at one’s disposal, but your monthly mobile data plan will definitely be throttled sooner than you think. Well, Opera intends to maximize your video watching experience on Android devices by delivering its innovative video compression feature to its Opera Mini Android browser.

It is about time, don’t you think so, Android users? After all, this particular video compression feature had already been made available for the iOS platform for over a year already. Do take note that you will need to manually enable “video boost” in the browser’s “high savings mode” before the video compression feature kicks in, so there is a wee bit of “work” on your part prior.

It should be easily noticeable the moment you do so that your videos should load faster than ever before, but that would also mean a drop in quality – which should be more pronounced if you are using one of the newer Android devices with higher resolutions. [Press Release]
