nfl-logoLast month there were reports that there were several tech companies interested in acquiring the streaming rights to some of the NFL’s game. One of the companies mentioned was Apple, but a report from Re/code has revealed that Apple has since dropped out of the race as they figured that it would be too expensive, and it probably won’t have that big of an impact they want with the Apple TV.

There have been rumors that Apple is looking to ramp up its Apple TV set-top box by turning it into more than a device that can watch TV shows and movies from iTunes. The rumors have suggested that Apple could be interested in adding TV channels, and there have also been talks about potentially creating their own content.

According to Re/code’s report, it seems that even if they were to acquire the rights to stream some of the NFL’s games, it isn’t enough to set themselves apart from the competition, like what they’ve been trying to do. Their report also goes on to add that other companies such as Facebook have expressed interest, along with the likes of Amazon and Verizon.

They also briefly mention Yahoo who actually paid for the rights to stream the games last year,. but given that Yahoo is said to be looking to sell themselves, they might not have the time or resources to commit to it. Either way we guess we’ll just have to wait and see who comes out on top.
