Samsung-Galaxy-S7-vs-S7-edge-08_900

Samsung has a habit of creating additional variants of its flagship smartphones so it won’t surprise anyone if it comes out with multiple variants of the Galaxy S7. One of the company’s own apps recently confirmed the existence of the Galaxy S7 Active and now a report suggests that Samsung might be working on a special Olympic Edition variant of the Galaxy S7. Samsung has had a long association with the Olympics so this doesn’t sound impossible to begin with.

According to the report, Samsung has started working on a new handset under the code name Hero2_Olympic_edition. This appears to be pretty self-explanatory since the codename for the Galaxy S7 was Hero2. What’s unclear right now is that whether it’s going to be a Galaxy S7 Olympic Edition or a Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition.

This particular edition of the new flagship will understandably arrive in time for the Olympics and is likely to feature VR content from the games, Samsung might even provide a free Gear VR with the Olympic Edition. It already confirmed earlier this year that it’s going to deliver the first Olympic content in virtual reality this year.

Samsung has released a similar variant in the past, the Galaxy Note 3 Olympic Edition was released back in 2014, so it’s not an entirely new idea for the company. Still, until there’s more to go by, take all of this with a grain of salt.
