Don’t be surprised the next time you search for a car on Google and see an entirely new kind of ad in the search results. The global search giant has released a new product called Model Automotive Ads. This is a new ad format which puts swipeable images of cars in the search results when users search Google for particular models.

Google has been improving its ad services to attract more advertisers as Facebook proves to be a worthy competitor in its own right. The company certainly wouldn’t want to lose advertising dollars to Facebook which is why it’s taking these steps to ensure that advertisers don’t jump ship.

This new ad format will enable car manufacturers to feature their cars in a prominent position directly in search results and thus be able to pull in potential customers to their dealerships.

For example, searching for the Toyota Prius returns a swipeable reel of images of the hybrid car, its interior and features. The ad contains buttons which when clicked will take users to the official Prius site and will also allow them to interact with local dealers.

Currently this ad product is only available to all OEM automotive advertisers in the United States. Google points out that this is the first product of its kind to feature swipeable dynamic imagery. It’s very much a possibility that it might be opened to other industries as well at some point down the line.
