A couple of weeks ago we reported that Napster’s founder Sean Parker was reportedly working on a new movie service dubbed Screening Room. The idea is that instead of moviegoers paying to go to watch the movies in cinemas, they have the option of paying $50 to watch the movie in the comfort of their own home.

Now this is no doubt a radical idea if true, but the question is are movie studios on board? Last we checked, studios weren’t too thrilled, but it seems that some of Hollywood’s big name directors are on board. According to a report from Variety, directors such as Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Martin Scorsese, Taylor Hackford, Frank Marshall, and J.J. Abrams are backing the idea.

Now $50 might seem like high price to pay, but we suppose given that it is your home, you could easily invite 10-20 friends over and split the costs, assuming your house can fit that many people comfortably. There is also the upside of being able to watch the movie whenever you want instead of having to have your time dictated by the showing times, and you also don’t have to pay for overpriced cinema snacks.

Out of that $50, $20 is said to be going to theaters and customers will also be getting two movie tickets each, so if you liked the movie enough, you could go watch it again. Or maybe you could give it away or sell those extra tickets if you’re business savvy enough.
