htc one m10 camera sampleAccording to the rumors, the upcoming HTC One M10 is said to employ the use of a 12MP camera. This is a nice change of pace from HTC in the previous years where they have attempted to come up ways to shake up the camera industry with features like UltraPixel, which unfortunately never quite took, despite HTC’s best intentions.

That being said, a photo sample that was allegedly taken by the phone has since made its way online, thanks to a recent post by TechTastic.nl (via PhoneArena). While the sample itself does not appear to be particularly high quality and seems to be suffering from a very bad case of halo effect, the EXIF data has revealed additional information.

For starters, it looks like the camera of the HTC One M10 will have a larger aperture compared to its predecessor, the HTC One M9. The aperture will be of the f/1.9 variety versus the f/2.2 on the One M9. Granted f/1.9 isn’t as wide as the Galaxy S7’s f/1.7, but it is still pretty wide and should allow for decent low-light photography.

The resolution revealed by the camera is of the 2250×4000 variety, which is about 9MP in a 16:9 format. This seems to go against the 12MP rumor, but perhaps shooting in 9MP is one of the options HTC will be offering to users. In any case HTC has promised that they will create a very compelling camera, but so far the sample photo does leak much to be desire. No word on when HTC will make it official, but they have been teasing its reveal, so perhaps it won’t be too long now.
