Last month John McAfee publicly offered his services to hack the iPhone. McAfee claims that installing a backdoor would be a bad idea and agrees that it will set a dangerous precedent, so by hacking the iPhone, it will give the FBI what they need without having to install a backdoor. He also claimed to be able to do it in three weeks.

So has McAfee managed to figure out to do it? He recently made an appearance on national TV in which he listed down the steps needed in order to hack the iPhone. He claims all the FBI needs is a hardware engineer who can take the phone apart and copy its instruction set. He then claims that they will need a software engineer to run a disassembler that will give readable instructions.

After which, the engineer will look through the code for the first access to the keypad, which according to McAfee, will only take half an hour. Once that’s done, they should be able to figure out how to unlock the iPhone. Now naturally there are plenty of subtleties involved in these steps, assuming they are accurate.

The comments in the video have shown many who disagree with McAfee’s method, but then again this is just a theory and we have no idea if it will work, but he seems to be pretty optimistic about it.
