macbook-pro-15-retina-13If you bought a MacBook Pro in mid-2010, you might be interested to learn that both the 15-inch and 17-inch models have now been marked as obsolete by Apple, along with the early 2009 Xserve. That being said, we suppose given that the laptops are now 6 years old, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise.

However what does that mean for owners of the laptop? According to Apple, “Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.”

We should point out that the laptops are marked as obsolete for the rest of the world, but marked as vintage in markets like the US and Turkey. There is a difference as vintage products are still eligible to receive service and parts from Apple, but like we said, it has been marked as obsolete for other markets so if you don’t live in the US or Turkey, you might run into trouble should you need to service your MacBook Pro.

Then again, your device is about 6 years old which means that it’s probably time for an upgrade. The rumors are claiming that Apple will be hosting an event this month, and given that Apple tends to announce refreshed hardware for laptops in the early part of the year, perhaps you might be interested in seeing what Apple might have to offer for 2016.
