miitomoMiitomo is Nintendo’s first mobile game and as we heard last week, the game is due for a release on the 17th of March, sure enough it has. Unfortunately like we reported last week, the initial release is set for Japan but we’re sure that it will eventually make its way to other markets, but for those in Japan, the game is available for download via the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

So what is Miitomo? For those who haven’t been following the news, Miitomo is Nintendo’s first mobile game title. Prior to this, the company had famously refused to create games for mobile, but ultimately they decided to give in and entered into a partnership with DeNA to help develop games for smartphones.

Miitomo is the first of many titles to come and it is more of a social game if anything. Users will be tasked to create characters/avatars, and based on their preferences and interests, they will then be matched with other players whom they can chat with. We’re not sure how “fun” such a game will be, but it is customizable in the sense that users can purchase new clothing and accessories to dress up their characters.

So far initial reviews of the game have found it to be quirky, but at the same time maintaining Nintendo’s feel that their first-party titles usually have. As for the game’s global release, Nintendo is planning for it to take place later this month, so keep an eye out for it if it sounds like something you might be interested in trying.
