nikcollectionGoogle has grown to be a company so large, that they more or less are able to gobble up any other smaller companies with cool technologies without having to go through the tedium of research and development. In fact, many other companies also do so in the new economy, and if one were to rewind the clock four years back, then Google picked up Nik, the company that brought Snapseed to being.

After delivering Snapseed to the Android platform, the entire range of Nik plug-ins for desktop photo editing clients, including Photoshop, were still available for purchase at $150 a pop. It seems that this is no longer the case, as from this week onward, the whole Nik Collection is said to be free to download for just about anyone and everyone. I wonder how those who paid $150 for it just a month ago would feel?

Fret not, Google will issue refunds automatically to everyone who picked up the collection for $150 a pop in 2016. That is a pretty fair amount of time to trace back, so those who decided to take the plunge in 2015, then you an see it as an investment. Below is an excerpt from Nik Collection’s Google+ post.

Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be freely available to download: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. If you purchased the Nik Collection in 2016, you will receive a full refund, which we’ll automatically issue back to you in the coming days.
