Updates are usually welcome because they bring to the table improvements, bug fixes, optimizations, and so on. However sometimes updates can cause trouble, as is the case with the latest NVIDIA GeForce driver 364.47 which NVIDIA has since pulled due to numerous reports from customers that the update is causing a fair bit of trouble.According to the reports, it seems that the update has been causing freezes, visual glitches, and in more serious cases, has prevented computers from booting up. Some even claim that the update has burnt out their cards, but NVIDIA has since told the folks at Engadget that the reports of cards burning out aren’t true, and at worst they have received complaints of blacked out or corrupted screens. The good news is that NVIDIA has since acknowledged the issue and has issued a new update 364.51 that should address the problems.
According to the company, “We had received reports of some users having issues installing driver version 364.47. Initial investigation suggests the issue was related to doing an “Express” installation. If you happen to have a pending installation of 364.47, we recommend that you do not install it and either use the new 364.51 beta version or wait for the WHQL certified version.”
However as NVIDIA states, this update is in beta as they are awaiting on Microsoft to approve the polished version, but if you trust NVIDIA knows what they’re doing then you can go ahead and check it out, especially if you have been experiencing any of the issues mentioned above.
