Facebook-owned Oculus has been working on its Rift virtual reality headset for a couple of years now and it has finally started shipping units to meet the release date next week. This is the first retail headset from Oculus so it’s a big moment for the company. Oculus founder commemorated it by personally delivering the first commercial Rift headset to a buyer in Alaska.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey went all the way to Alaska to deliver the first unit to Ross Martin. He was informed through an email that he would get his unit on Saturday and that he should call them and confirm a few details. It was only then that he was told that his unit will be delivered in person.

“I’ll be damned if some random delivery guy is going to get the satisfaction of delivering the first Rift,” said Luckey as he took a day off during the most important launch process for Oculus to travel to Alaska and deliver the unit to Martin in person.

Luckey didn’t hang around for a long time. The video he posted online shows that it was a short stop in Alaska where he handed over the unit to Martin and went straight to the airport to catch a flight back.

The retail version of Oculus Rift virtual reality headset will officially be released on March 28th.
